I work as a Latin American theatre specialist and coordinator of editorial management in the theatre department of Casa de las Américas in Havana. I am a member of ‘LA manada’, a community of creative women who carry out a program of sociocultural community action through music, theatre, audiovisual media, performance and activism. In parallel, I am immersed in the post-production of ‘‘ Wayacón ’’, a documentary film that I directed inspired by the life of a Cuban artist. I am currently in my fourth year of Theatre Art at the University of the Arts (ISA).
What made you want to write in the first place?
From my childhood, I found in writing a more intimate and confessional way to relate to the world.
What are your favourite films/tv series?
Persona, Ingmar Bergman; Memorias del subdesarrollo, Tomás Gutiérrez Alea; Antes que anochezca, Julian Schnabel; A bout de souffle, Jean-Luc Godard; Underground, Emir Kusturica; Madagascar, Fernando Pérez; Nostalgia, Andrei Tarkovsky…
What do you do when you’re not writing?
I always look for a moment to write. This is what my current academic training requires. But I usually combine writing with production management within ‘‘ LA manada ’’, my theatrical research work at Casa de las Américas and other independent studies of general training.
What sort of characters interest you?
Disjointed, contradictory characters.
